December 2023: On 17 December, under sub-contract to the US Dept. of Veterans Affairs, Medical Networks, LLC submitted the first ever “AI in Health IT” standards deliverable to Health Level Seven (HL7). This White Paper, covering 40 pages plus supplemental documents, provides standards-based “Informative Guidance for developers and other relevant stakeholders in the healthcare world. It is specifically concerned with the Data Lifecycle of Machine Learning Design and Development and focuses on “Trustworthy AI” for clinicians. This deliverable is undergoing formal balloting during Dec. 2023 to Jan 2024 and is the first step in the development of several standards for Health AI in HL7, the largest Health IT Standards Development Organization (SDO) in the world.
Founded in 1987, HL7 International is a not-for-profit, ANSI-accredited SDO dedicated to providing a comprehensive framework and related standards for the exchange, integration, sharing, and retrieval of electronic health information that supports clinical practice and the management, delivery and evaluation of health services. HL7 is supported by more than 1,600 members from over 50 countries, including 500+ corporate members representing healthcare providers, government stakeholders, payers, pharmaceutical companies, vendors/suppliers, and consulting firms.
September 2023: Our Founder, President and CEO of Medical Networks, LLC was presented with the Ed Hammond Volunteer of the Year Award at the 2023 37th Annual Health Level Seven (HL7) Plenary and Working Group Meeting in Phoenix, AZ during 10-14 September 2023.

Mark Janczewski, M.D., M.P.H., FAAFP, FAMIA, joined HL7 in 2009 and has served as a co-chair for the Electronic Health Records (EHR) work group since 2013. He has been a long-standing and consistent champion for health IT and standards development to improve interoperability of health IT systems from a variety of aspects, particularly from the view of the clinician. Dr. Janczewski’s interests are in the areas of health IT system adoption and implementation, functional requirements development, workflow and decision modeling, HL7 FHIR implementation, metrics and analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI). He is one of the co-authors of the EHR-S Functional Model Release 2, the Personal Health Record System (PHR-S) FM R.2, Data Elements for Emergency Department Systems (DEEDS), and has participated in the development of and/or co-authored several functional profile standards. In addition, Dr. Janczewski is currently facilitating the AI Focus Team’s Project 11 on AI Data Lifecycle, the first-ever AI-based standards development effort in HL7.
